Biography

Children with Merrill: Dexter and Jobe.

Children with Halbert: Minnie, Louise, Maud, Claude Lee, Dora, George, Mabel, and Walter

Obit - Cyrus Gile was born in the year 1830 in New York state. He was one of a family of twelve children. When he was ten years old, his father moved to Wisconsin, and it was while living there that he was married in 1852 to Miss Mary Merrill. She died in 1859, leaving two children. In 1860 Mr. Gile was married to Miss Lydia R. Halbert. To them were born 8 children. Together with his family in 1868, he moved to McHenry county, IL in Grafton township on a farm, where he lived until the time of his death, Jan. 15, 1908. With thrift and industry he improved and paid for his farm. Here many a friend and many a stranger enjoyed the warm hospitality of his home and the wholesome food of his well filled table. The motto of his home seemed to be: "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." A devoted wife and seven children are left to mourn his death. (Huntley Congregational church services.) Among the relatives who attended the funeral were: Job Gile, Minneapolis, MN, Mrs. and Mrs. Day, Elgin; Mr. and Mrs. McGrew and Walter Gile, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. John B. Johnson, Darien, Wis.; Millard Langdon and son, Belvidere; Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Fillmore and family.
