Hayes, president of the old C. H. Hayes Corp., boxxmanufacturers, and widely known business woman, died this morning at the home,1 Windsor street, following a long illness at the age of 81. Mrs. Hayes was the widow of Charles H. Hayes, founder of the box making concern and former president of the Haverhill Trust Co. Mrs. Hayes had been an invalid and in poor health since she fell in her home and sustained a fractured hip about two years ago. She had been confined to her bed most of the time since then. She was stricken with pneumonia about three weeks ago and that with other complications were attributed as the final cause of death. Mrs. Hayes was born in Raymond, N.H. April 16, 1850, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Gile. She was educated in the schools of New Hampshire and at the age of 20 married Charles H. Hayes in Milton, N.H. where they made their home for a period. Mr. and Mrs. Hayes came to Haverhill about 48 years ago after which Mr. Hayes established the box business in this city. He was in business on Granite Street for many years and gained a New England wide reputation until liquidation about four years ago. Mr. Hayes was prominent in the business and financial live of the city and after his death 15 years ago, Mrs. Hayes stepped into his place as head of the box making concern. She became a leader in the industrial life of the city after her husband's death. Aside from her business career, Mrs. Hayes led a quiet life. She held interest in the community affairs and was a supporter of many local organizations. Mrs. Hayes is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Albert B. Blaisdell and Miss Marion Hayes; and a grandchild, Mrs. Frederick Tileston, Duxbury..." (Funeral Trinity Episcopal Church, bur. Linwood Cem.)
