Biography

John Charles Gile was born on 19 Jun 1887 in Eldon, Wapello, Iowa, United States, son of Albert Joseph Gile (1859 - 1929) and Bridget (Reardon) Gile (1860 - 1929).[1]


John (~49) married Hazel Teasdale ( - ) in 1936.[2]

John died on 9 Jun 1967 in Iowa City, Johnson, Iowa aged 79.[3]


Death Notice: John Gile,79 of 917 Iowa St., a Davenport resident for 25 years, died Friday at Veterans Hospital, Iowa City, after an extended illness. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Runge Chapel, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa. Mr. Gile was formerly employed for the Rock Island Chicago and North Western Railway. He had been a bartender since 1945 retiring in 1953. Mr. Gile was a veteran of World War I. Survivors include his wife, sons, Ernie, Clinton, Iowa and Robert, Memphis, Tenn., daughters, Mrs. Robert Shumake, Preston, Iowa, and Mrs. John streets, Tampa, Fla.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Thomas Fosets, and 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mr. Gile was formerly employed for the Rock Island Chicago and North Western Railway. He had been a bartender since 1945 retiring in 1953. He was born in Eldon, Iowa. In 1936 he married Hazel teasdale. Mr. Gile was a veteran of World War I. Survivors include his wife, sons, Ernie, Clinton, Iowa and Robert, Memphis, Tenn., daughters, Mrs. Robert Shumake, Preston, Iowa, and Mrs. John streets, Tampa, Fla.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Thomas Fosets, and 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Research Note

According to the 1900 Federal Census, Al and Bridget Gile had 6 children and 2 living at that time. No information has been found about the sixth child.

Their niece Kitty Guile was living with them at the time of the census.[5]
