Mary Ann Giles (married name French) was born on 14 May 1824 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, the daughter of Eliza (Heaven) Giles and Joseph Giles.^[1]

She married Samuel French on 12 March 1842 in Tasmania.^[2] Their children were:
