He served in the Marines 1891 re census at the Medway. He was a prisoner of war in Germany 1915-1918. On his discharge and return to England, his wife Alice (Goddard) died in London. The family then was broken up - there were two boys Edward and John, a daughter Alice. He could find no steady work possibly due to his deprivation as POW. He helped out at his Father in Law's tavern. Just before he would receive his first real monies at the age of 65 years, he died. This was his old age pension. His occupation was usually dock worker previous to 1915.
