Isaac Cornelius Giles was born on 10 Aug 1849. He died on 16 Feb 1914[1]
Isaac was a prominent [very successful] merchant specializing in groceries and implements in Bowie, Texas. He came to Bowie about 22 years before his death from Wood County, Texas.
He passed away of a heart ailment at the home of his daughter Mrs. James A. Wilson and her husband of Bowie. He had been living with his daughter since the death of his second wife Lizzie Marable Giles [1912]. He had a large circle of friends in the city.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. on 18 February at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. R. E. Bell officiating.
Isaac was the son of Barnabus "Barney" McKinney and Mary Elizabeth Harrison Giles. They are buried in Hawkins Cemetery, Hawkins, Wood, Texas.
Besides membership in the Baptist Church, Mr. Giles was also a member of the Masons and its symbol appears on his tombstone.

His first wife was Mary Leila Giles and he is buried next to her and his daughter Leila in the Giles family area of Elmwood Cemetery at Bowie.
His second wife, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Roane Marable Giles is buried next to her first husband, John Benjamin Marable, Sr. in the Marable area of Elmwood.
