Horace L. Giles
Horace L. "Lee Giles, 75, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Sept. 25,
1997, in Casper, Wyo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel,
Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. Shad Rue officiating.
Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.
Mr. Giles was born in Amarillo and worked for the BurlingtonNorthern
Railroad for 30 years. After his retirement, he earned a bachelor's
degree in education from West Texas State University and a master's
degree from East Michigan University. He worked as a substitute
teacher in Colorado, Texas and Arizona.
Mr. Giles served in the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific
during World War II. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and had
received a 50-year service pin.
Survivors include his wife of Casper; a daughter, Shirley Green of
Casper; seven sisters, Estelle Ray and Joyce Cox, both of Amarillo,
Pauline Hooper of Phoenix, Martha McBride of San Diego, Jenny Owens of
Sun City, Ariz., Judy Avery of Plano and Sarah Brennenstuhl of
Evergreen, Colo.; two brothers, C.L. Giles of Amarillo and Donald
Giles of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to the Shepherd of the Valley Care
Center or Maurice Griffith Manor, both in Casper.
