Jack also known as John was the son of Henrietta Henshaw and John Gillespie.
He became a crew member on the RMS Makura sailing out of Wellington to San Francisco in the 1920's as Assistant Purser. In the 1930's he sailed on the Limerick and worked as a Wireless Operator sailing out of San Francisco, Vancouver, Honolulu and Wellington.
Jack settled in Australia and married.
John (Jack) William Roland Gillespie died in 2002 aged 93.
