Bio Note: Information from Don Scarbrought's notes on the Pickens family.

Matthew Gillespie was born about 1695-1700 in County Limerick, Ireland. His father was William Gillespie. He married Lucy (Pickens) Kerr (1702-1785). He died in 1728 in Abington, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.[citation needed]

Mathew Gillespie traveled from Ireland to Pennsylvania with the Pickens family. Lucy Pickens married Mathew Gillespie in 1722 at the Presbyterian Church, Pennsylvania. After Mathew died, Lucy married John Carr (Kerr).[citation needed]

Records of Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church (Beverly Manor), Virginia show importation in 1740 in Orange county of John Carr, his wife Lucy, his wife's children Mathew & Margaret Gillespie, and four Carr children.[1]

On 27 March 1740 in Orange County Court, Virginia, "John Carr made oath that he imported himself, Lucy his wife, Margaret Gilasby, Matthew Glasby, his wife's children, Jane, Wm:, Barbara, Lucy & Martha Carr, his children, at his own Charge from Ireland to Philadelphia & from thence into this Colony and that this is the first time of his proving his & their rights in order to obtain Land" in Virginia. The oath was ordered to be certified.[2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Matthew by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Matthew:

Father, John William Gillespie (bef.1662-aft.1702) was removed as he lived his whole life in Scotland, and therefore, probably did not have a child born in Ireland.

Profile needs work, children born when he was too young, etc....please add reliable sources.

Matthew was born 1700, married 1722. Children born after marriage up to the year he died. I don't know where that 1st child came from but I did remove as father
His wife is 2 people combined.

The birth/death dates for Kerr is inaccurate. I do not have the correct info and would like to ask the other profile managers if they can find the correct dates.

These errors are also with her husband Gillespi, and children.

Thanks for the help. DB 13Apr2020

Gillespie-1372 and Gillespie-168 appear to represent the same person because: I believe they are the same person. Gillespi168 has great deal more family history. There is a difference on birth date. There is agreement on death date and location. There is agreement on person for marriage. Gillespie-1372 has a marriage date and location.
Gillespie-1197 and Gillespie-168 appear to represent the same person because: What I have as John Mathew Gillespie is actually Mathew Gillespie and appear to be the same as yours.

Gillespie-756 and Gillespie-168 appear to represent the same person because: I believe they are the same person.Gillespie-168 is more complete with better death data. Gillespie-756 has a son William Jr seems odd for a father Matthew.
Gillespie-1197 and Gillespie-168 appear to represent the same person because: I believe they are the same person. There is a difference first name and birth date.
