John P Gillespie was enumerated as son of the head of household at Sinton Road Number 3, Justice Precinct 7, San Patricio County, Texas for the February 14, United States Census, 1920. He was noted as born 1908 in Texas and single as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are head John Gillespie, wife Florence Gillespie, son Elma Gillespie and brother Carroll C Gillespie.^[2]

John P Gillespie was listed as the father of John Wade Gillespie who was born May 4, 1929 in Austin, Travis County, Texas. The mother was listed as Mary Rebecca Piper.^[3]

John P Gillespie was enumerated as son of the head of household at 1002 Shelley Avenue, Austin, Travis County, Texas for the April 14, United States Census, 1930. He was noted as born 1908 in Texas and married. He was first married at the age of twenty-one. He was a fireman (city protection) as seen in an image of the original census. Also included in the household are head John L Gillespie, wife Florence M Gillespie, daughter-in-law Mary R Gillespie, son James E Gillespie, daughter Florence R Gillespie and grandson John W Gillespie.^[4]
