This person is an ancestor of President James Knox Polk[1] Her age is an estimate.

Lydia (sometimes Lidia) Gillespie was born Aug 2, 1753 in Rowan County, North Carolina, United States. She was one of ten children of Thomas Gillespie and Naomi Thompson Gillespie.[2] She married Captain James Knox (1752-1794) on Nov 4, 1772 in Rowan County, North Carolina.[3] She was still living at the time of her father's death on Dec 15, 1796, along with her son Thomas Knox, who was mentioned in her Father's Will. After James died, she married Ezekiel Wallace on Apr 19, 1797. There were no known children by her marriage to Ezekiel.[4]

James Knox and Lydia Gillespie Knox had the following children:

  1. Robert Knox (1774-1869)
  2. Naomi Knox (1775-1854)
  3. Jane Gracy Knox (1776-1852), who married Samuel Polk (1772-1827) (Father of President James Knox Polk (1795-1849), 11th President of the United States)
  4. Thomas G. Knox (1780-?)
