Mary was born in 1889. She is the daughter of Dugald Gillespie and Jennie Skinner. At the age of 19, she died on 6 Nov 1908 in Rural Municipality of Lorne, Manitoba, Canada [1] The cause of her death was burning by fire. At the time of her death, Mary Gillespie was boarding in the Carey household in Swan Lake. Mr Edward Carey and Mrs. Isabelle (Herbert) Carey and their six children also died in the fire. It was believed that the house fire started by an explosion of coal oil used in the lighting of the parlor stove.
Shortly after the death of their talented, beautiful girl, the Gillespie family sold their land and moved from the Swan Lake community[2]
