Nancy Agnes Gillespie married twice.
She married first Charles Bowen[1] who was a Loyalist and may have died in the Battle of King's Mountain[2] fought 7 October 1780 in South Carolina.
She married second Samuel Houston on 21 January 1793 in Blount County, Tennessee.[3]
Samuel and Nancy had the following children (dates estimated):
See Deconflation of Gillespies of the Colony of Virginia.
Some presume Nancy Agnes (Gillespie) Houston (1763-1816) is the daughter of:
Some presume Mary is Mary (Glendinning) Gillespie (-1797).
We're still researching this family. As Wiiliam Gillespie, Jr was born in South Carolina and the colonies were still fighting the French Indian War, the Gillespies seemed to have left their plantation 3 years before. They had one child in Pennsylvania and then another in South Carolina. Some research ways Nancy was the last born to William Gillespie and Mary (Glendinning) Gillespie, 7 Jan 1763. But it looks as if her older brother was born in South Carolina, and then she was married and died in Tennessee. It seems unlikely they went back up to Cowpasture.[citation needed] I think we need more research for Nancy.
There was research that showed Nancy was born about 1771 (alternate birth between 1770-1776 and alternate birth place Blount County Tennessee). This is unlikely as she first married Charles Bowen.
As her brother was born in South Carolina, her parents died in South Carolina, it seems there may be an inconsistency here. There are a lot of inconsistencies in this family.
Alteratively, Agnes was born in 1750.
An unsourced marriage date of 1774 in Augusta County, Virginia, to Charles Bowen was listed in a profile merged into this profile.
Some research states that Nancy died in Blount County, Tennessee in 1816.[4] But then she passed away in 1816 in Lauderdale County, Alabama.[5]

Timothy and I are now piloting Nancy Agnes (Gillespie) Bowen. He thinks its possible Nancy Agnes is actually Agnes which is entirely possible as Middle Names were often used as first names. I'm thinking we can merge Nancy Agnes and Agnes as we sort through the particulars of these two women. Do you have any thoughts about a merge?
This information is not definitive, but, we ("I") should be open to the possibility that Nancy Agnes (from the Falkirk Gillespies) did not marry a Houston and may never have had children. We need to start from scratch. Important for my purposes is that William and Mary had an 11th child named Nancy who was born after her brother William in South Carolina. The Houstons may have been part of the William Gillespie from Ulster. where'd Nancy go? Did she have descendants?

We know Nancy Agnes married Charles and that he fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain (See Tennessee Historical Society fn.
I have a habit of buzzing right through information while looking up for something else so don't write down notes that might be important when they're about something else. I am terrible at multi-tasking.
I've dropped a comment in Andrew Barrocco's comment for gnes to see if he'd be amenable to merging files as these dates are not very solid.
I do the same thing while researching. While going through all of this Gillespie stuff I have noticed that my mothers family is also in Virginia in the same area. The Skillern’s and the Anderson’s. Needless to say because I was only looking for Gillespie and Bowen information I skimmed over it. I’ll have to circle back later

Looked at it some more this morning…….
Find a grave for Nancy Agnus Gillespie Houston states that her mothers name was Isabella Henderson per DAR application. Houston per marriage record to William. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/125249394/nancy-agnes-houston I also see on family search that they have her father listed as William Gillespie. According to the profiles on FamilySearch both of her parents were born in Ireland. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LCMX-9WN
Do you have an issue with splitting Nancy Gillespie Bowen and Nancy Gillespie Houston apart and merging any duplicates that may be out there?

We may disagree with the sources, but we can take advantage of the sources Southern Colonies Project that gives us a library and standards for reliable and nonreliable sources -- what do you think? Many FindaGrave profiles are unsourced. So can we approach this with stronger sources than FAG which hsitories are often unsourced?

I have added you a a PM to this profile. We can work on splitting them together. Once split I do not need to be a PM on Nancy Houston. I think it important that we keep Nancy Gillespie Bowen as Gillespie-445 as that is how the profile was started.
Tim
We related has her attached to my Scottish William Gillespie and convoluted with your family. Both websites would love to get this straighted out.
Your cooperation would be most appreciated.

Why do we think Nancy Agnes Gillespie Ferguson ever married John Bowen? All her children are Fergusons. Thomas Ferguson apparently died in Indiana in 1836 There is a grandchild through a youngest child who was born and died in Indiana. Even on Just a cursory glance, this looks like the family moved to Indiana.
There is a published Family history of the Bowens mentioning Mary (Gillespie) Bowen, not Nancy Agnes; Also John Bowen m. Rachel Matthews and settled on the James River in Boutetourt Virginia and he and Rachel had 5 children. [1]
If John is your ancestor, can we connect John with the right wife please? your thoughts?
