Biography

Charles was born about 1664 in the colony of Virginia. He is the son of John Gilliam and Margaret Henshaw.

Charles must have suffered a debilitating disease or been involved in an accident for about a decade he was relieved from parish levies as he was "lame of hand and foot."

Charles' wife, Frances Hall, is known from the Will and Inventory of James Hall of Charles City and a Deed of Charles and Frances to Hinchea Mabry.

Charles Gilliam lived adjacent to George Jordan. For several generations these families were interconnected. Harris Gilliam, grandson of Charles, married Elizabeth Jordan, granddaughter of George Jordan.
