To sort this out it would be good to look at The Peerage person page 13991 Walter Devereux, 1st Viscount Hereford who married lady Mary Grey and secondly Margaret Garneys

Walter had a son Richard Devereux by Lady Mary Grey, who married Lady Dorothea Hastings. His children were Elizabeth Devereux and Walter Devereux Ist Earl of Essex. No mention of America or Gilliam

On second thoughts Gilliam sounds similar to the French for William.

The Gloucestershire baptism doesn't have anything to identify it as belonging to this person.

Agreed, C. This person was never a Viscount of Hereford, nor was his wife a daughter of Lettice Knollys and Walter Devereux.
