Eliza was born about 1793. Eliza Gillman married in Ireland and raised a family there. After her husband died [most likely a victim of the so-called 'potato famine'] Eliza and some of her family moved to America, where they remained in Ohio until their deaths. Eliza passed away in 1863 and was buried in Tiffin, Ohio. One of her sons Robert Henry Atkins, however, emigrated to Australia in search of gold. He was my great-grandfather. He was married on one of the goldfields in Victoria, Australia, and his children, including my grandfather, were also born in that gold-mining district known as "New Bendigo", but actually just outside the town of St Arnaud.[1]
