Four of the eleven sons of Jean (Gilmore) Patterson (1721-1809) & Robert Patterson, removed about 1770-1772, and settled on land purchased for them by their father (Robert Gilmore Sr) on the east side of the river near where the city of Belfast now stands.[1]
"Pattersons of Belfast Maine: Robert Patterson, son of Robert (Patterson) and Jean (Gilmore) Patterson (1721-1809) was born in Saco, in 1742, and removed to Belfast in 1770. He married Elizabeth Goodwin, in Saco, 21 Dec 1774, and had children born there; hence I suppose he did not move his family "down east" for several years after opening his clearing. He lived on the eastern side of the river, near Garrison hill, and died there 9 Oct 1829, aged 87."[1]
William Patterson was probably born @ Saco, York County, Maine while the rest of the children were probably born in Belfast, Waldo County, Maine:
