Charles Gleason was born in January 1850 in Warrensville, Cuyahoga, Ohio to Henry Gleason and Zilpha Smith. His father was a farmer from Massachusetts. [1]
In 1860, the family of Henry Gleason continued to live in Warrensville, Ohio. Charles was one of six children. Henry was a mason, and his son, Perry, listed his occupation as a farmer.[2]
By 1870, Charles, age 20, had relocated with his parents and siblings, Orlo, James and Ella, to Summerfield, Monroe, Michigan, where his father, Henry, was a farmer.[3]
Charles married Mary Clark on January 1, 1877 in Deerfield, Lenawee, Michigan. Mary was born in Deerfield.[4][5]
In 1880, Charles and Mary lived in Deerfield, where he was a brick mason.[6]
Charles married Charlotte Painter, age 28, on September 5, 1899 in Newfield Township, Oceana, Michigan. It was Charles' second marriage and Charlotte's first.[7] In 1900, Charles and Charlotte were residents of Branch & Eden townships, Mason, Michigan. Charles was a merchant.[8]
In 1910, Charles was a storekeeper of a general store in Beaver, Newaygo, Michigan. He and Charlotte had no children. Charlotte's mother, Dora Painter, lived with them, along with a servant and nephew, 11-year-old Fred McClary.[9]
Charles died September 29, 1912 in Beaver, Newaygo, Michigan at the age of 61 and was buried in Volney Cemetery, Volney, Newaygo, Michigan.[10][11]
