Jean was born in Challenge, CA in 1914. Her first school was the North Bloomfield schoolhouse where her mother taught. In 1920, the family moved to Nevada City. Jean Gleason became a teacher herself and taught for many years in the Nevada City and Grass Valley school district. She enlisted in WWII and in the U.S. Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) stationed in New York and Hawaii. She passed away in 2005. [1]
