Biography

Hugh was born about 1730. He was the son of Thomas Glenn and Christiana Wilson.

While Hugh Glenn did not have a deed in Lancaster or Dauphin County, Pennsylvania that I could find, he is shown as owning land in Hanover Township,[1] Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on the tax lists 1771-1782. This is likely because his family were there so early they are one of the early settlers. Hugh Glen lived in the southeastern section of East Hanover Township adjoining James Beard. His aunt Mary Glenn married William Beard.

Hugh Glenn served in the Revolutionary War in the Militia in the Hanover Rifle Battalion of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Associators. Hugh Glenn married Elizabeth Martin. They moved to Washington County Pennsylvania. Their daughter Ann married David Hays and lived nearby. Hugh and Elizabeth stayed there until 1791 when they moved on to Madison County, Kentucky.

In 1804 Elizabeth Martin Glenn said in a deposition “I was well acquainted with Joseph McKnitt and his wife Sarah of Lancaster County Pennsylvania where they lived when I left Pennsylvania.” This is the earliest record identifying Hugh and Elizabeth Martin Glenn in Madison County Kentucky

As they grew older, they sold land to their son Joseph Glenn, and then land on Paint Lick Creek to their son Hugh Jr. with the condition Hugh Sr. and Eliabeth were to live there while they were alive. Hugh died in 1807. Elizabeth his widow filed a suit on 14 Jul 1808 against Hugh Jr and Martin Glenn of Madison County Kentucky. This lawsuit names all 9 children with Hugh Glenn Sr. Elizabeth Died in 1808.

Name: Hugh Glenn[2]

Residence 1800 Madison, Kentucky, United States. [3]

Glenn-2895 and Glenn-275 appear to represent the same person because: same name, same parents, same wife

Glenn-1800 and Glenn-275 appear to represent the same person because: These two records have the same parents and same death date. The difference in birth date is why the duplicate wasn't found when I imported my GEDCOM. I'm not sure which birth date or location is correct. Since his parents married in Pennsylvania and both died in Pennsylvania, it seems more likely that he was born in Pennsylvania, but it's just a hunch.
