Jacob Glover was a merchant of Newtown, Connecticut. On the outbreak of the war he served as a sergeant in Lord Rawdons command. In 1770 he was sent to Long Island in a boat in command of eight soldiers to capture Major-General Sillman. The American general was captured easily, for he was alone and comparatively defenseless. On returning to the mainland they found Colonel Simcoe, of the Queen's Rangers, waiting for them, who called out, "Have you got him?" Answer "Yes." "Have you lost any men?" "No." "That is well," answered Simcoe, "your Sillmans are not worth a man, nor your Washingtons."
Sergeant Glover settled in Windham about 1810, where he was given Government land. His son, John, was given land in both Windham and Zorra townships.

Jacob and family, consisting of one "woman", one son, two daughters, 2 horses and 4 cows, were one family in the convoy of families that arrived in Niagara in 1787. Also in this convoy were the ancestors of this researcher, namely the Beamer and Mann families.
Jacob received a grant of Lot 14, Concessions 1, 2, 3 and 4, Grimsby Twp., Lincoln Co., east of the present town of Grimsby, and was named there on the 1791 and 1811 Surveyor General's Office maps. Jacob later sold his lot to Andrew Muir.
Jacob and his neighbors at Grimsby suffered during the "Hungry Years" and his name was on the list of petitioners requesting that the provisions loaned to them during the years of famine be paid for in the same kind as borrowed or in flour, wheat, or other produce. In 1795, Jacob served on the Grimsby Twp., council as Poundkeeper.
On 17 April 1796, Jacob filed an Upper Canada Land Petition at Forty Mile Pond mentioning his earlier circumstances.
NOTES OF DEBORAH Glover DOCUMENTATION TO DATE: Jacob Glover was a United Empire Loyalist. As such, he could petition for Crown land which if his petition was approved, he received this land free.
As a proven Loyalist, the sons and daughters of Jacob could also petition for Crown land. If their individual petitions were approved, they would receive their land at age 21 or for the daughters, earlier if they were married.
O C is for "Order in Council" and means that the approval of the petition means that an Order is made by the board, the council, to grant the land. so, these dates are NOT birth dates, but the dates that the land petition was approved to be granted
The title UE can be used by anyone with a direct line from a Loyalist. The UEL Association grants a certificate AFTER you have proved every generation for your direct ancestors from your Loyalist ancestor to yourself
