CHARLES SCHNEIDER: Shea Gluchoi was born in Belorodka in 1868. He was very religious and active in his synagogue throughout his life. He worked as a carpenter in Belorodka. His first wife, Shayndel died when giving birth to their 3rd child. He then married Fayga Hellman. Fayga gave birth to Sam (Shaul) in 1903. A year later, Shea went to the United States where he acquired a new name and a new job. Charles Schneider worked as a presser. He took the name Schneider because his brother Pinchas, a tailor who had already settled in St. Louis, had taken that surname. Charles earned 14$ (of which he saved 8$ ) each week. His family joined him in1909. He bought a home, 2943 Thomas Street in St. Louis, in around 1919. The family took great pride in this home. When Charles retired due to poor health, he went to live with his son Nathan. With his involvement in the synagogue, his union, and in the Belorodka Loan Company, Charles led an active life. He died in St. Louis in August of 1939.
