The funeral of the late Mrs. Martha Phillips took place yesterday afternoon. The previous night the remains were taken to the Baptist Church and before the funeral started the Rev. James Hunter held a service and spoke of Mrs. Phillips' long connection with the church concluding with prayers. The hymn Safe in the Arms of Jesus was sung. The remains were encased in a silver mounted polished coffin on the lid of which was Blessed are they who die in the Lord and At Rest The coffin bearers were the deceased's brothers and nephews. The chief mourners were Mrs. G. D Ison, (sister) Messrs Joseph, William and George (brothers) and many of her nephews. Many old friends and relatives of the family also attended. Some nice floral tributes were placed on the coffin. Mr. Hunter also officiated at the graveside.
