Biography

Alice Godfrey was born, presumably in Taunton, Plymouth Colony, about 1658, the daughter of Richard and Jane (Turner) Godfrey.[1]

She married, by 1679 (birth of first child), Peter Holbrook, son of Thomas and Joanna (Kingman) Holbrook. After marrying, they removed to Mendon, the part that is now (1955) Bellingham, where his Uncle William had settled in 1663. The area was called Qunshapage until 1669.[2] Her husband Peter was a deacon in the Mendon church and was a man of influence in the community. They had 10 sons and a daughter. Each child received a farm at their marriage.[1]

Alice died in Mendon, in what was then Suffolk County, Province of Massachusetts Bay on 29 April 1705, at about age 46.[3][4][1] and was buried in the North Bellingham Cemetery.[4]
