Henry lost his parents as a small child, he grew up at Risby then he emigrated to The States in 1851 age 18 years. He went on The Liverpool ship to New Orleans. He was listed in the records as being a single farmer from Lincolnshire with 2 suitcases.

Henry was born on 5 October 1832 in Walesby, Lincolnshire, England. He was the son of George William Godfrey and Elizabeth (Brice) Godfrey.^[1]
