Dorothy was born in Bourbon County, Virginia (now Clark County, Kentucky) in 1790 to Thomas Goff. In 1810, Dorothy married Samuel Denny. Her sister Hannah Goff had married Samuel's brother, David. Dorothy and Samuel had eleven children: Thomas Goffe; Reuben Ragan; Rachel T.; Margaret Parsons; Elizabeth G.; Christopher Harrison; Mary Ann; Permelia Welton; Joel Shields; John Miles; and Lewis Woody.
Dorothy died in 1860 and is buried on the family farm in Washington County, Indiana.
