George had several children baptised at Howden, Yorkshire, between 1600 and 1611. All are of George Goforth of Knedlington, the first known child being Margaret baptised 2 February 1599/1600,[1] buried 22 May 1600.[2][3]
Probable burial: Howden, 3 February 1647. "George Gofar of Knedlingto'". [4] Gofar or Gofair was a recognised variant of Goforth, and was the earlier form according to The Oxford Dictionary of Family Names in Britain and Ireland.[5]
Looking for sources ... No marriage record found, but there is a burial 5 October 1638 at Howden, "Eliz. wife to George Gofar of knedlingt." which may be the wife of this George.[6]
Date of death - Nothing found for 1663 and George would have been 98 at that time if the birth year is correct. There is a burial 1 March 1665 at Howden, but it is of a child, son of Edward. There is a probate April 1663 but it is for George Goforth of Sandhome, parish of Eastrington, and all other records are for Knedlington where the 1647 burial is.
