Fritz Goldberg, writing of his Uncle Albert in "The Goldberg Family Theater Archive", Leo Baeck Institute, New York, NY (Translated by Google and paraphrased by Dwight Childers):
Albert Goldberg was trained in his native city for the stage and made his debut as an opera singer in 1869 (baritone) at the Court Theatre in Munich. Then he performed, 1870 in Mainz, 1871 in Bremen, 1872-73 in Neustrelitz , 1874 in Strasbourg , 1875-76 in Augsburg , 1876-1880 in Koenigsberg, and in 1980-83 served as director of the local opera. From 1883 until his death he was Senior Director of the Municipal Theatre in Leipzig.
He was co-founder of Cooperative National German Stage (with Ludwig Barney and others) , 1871.
He refused a position, offered to him in 1900, as senior director at the Royal Court Opera of Berlin because a condition of the offer was that he convert to Christianity.
