Biography

Israel Golden was born in Rovno, Rovenskaya oblast, Volin, Russia on 15 July 1877 or 1880 or on 20 January 1874. By 1927, Israel filed this as being in the Republic of Poland. [1][2] [3] [4] [5] [6][7] An alternate story is that Israel or Rose were from Vilnus, Lithuania [8] [9]

Both parents were born in Russia. [10]

As is common, he has different birth dates on different documents. For the 1910 census he was 30 years old, so born in 1880. For

Israel departed Liverpool, England on 8 January 1905 on the SS Saxonia for Boston, MA, USA. [11] [12] [13]

He arrived in the US on 9 February 1905 on the SS Saxonia from Liverpool, England. He arrived with his friend Motel Teitelman. He is listed on the list as Israel Goldern. The passenger manifest lists him going to stay with Mayor Royman at 40 Spring St, Boston, MA. [14]<[15] [16]

In 1910 he's listed as an alien. [17][18] [19] [20]

He was married either shortly before or shortly after arrival in the US as he'd been married for 5 years in 1910. [21]

He spoke Yiddish, but not English in 1910, but was able to read and write Yiddish. [22]

He filed his Declaration of Intention on 17 Jan 1924, and Petition of Naturalization on April 1927. [23] [24]. He was admitted on 25 July 1927 [25]

He registered for the WW1 draft in September of 1918. [26]. He entered his description as tall, medium build, blue eyes, dark hair.

According to Bobby HOFFENBERG, Israel helped to build Fort Devens in Ayer, MA during WWI. Not sure if Israel was in the military for that or if he'd been hired by the govt or if he was part of the USO. Israel's daughter Molly claims to remember Israel driving to then Camp Devens every day from Chelsea. [27]

According to a conversation with Bobby HOFFENBERG, Israel died from heart failure. This occurred fairly soon after there was a fire at the family house in which a fire fighter died. [28]. He was dead before the 1930 Census.[29] His wife Rosa is listed as a widow in the 1932 city directory [30].

According to Israel's daughter Molly, the rest of Israel's family staying in Vilna Gaburnia (Vilna county?)[31]
