13-10-1917. He had volunteered to be a stretcher bearer as the battalion had severe casualties through their battle at Zonnebeke and needed assistance. He was carrying the wounded of the field in the night when he and another stretcher bearer became lost from the dressing station. He waited with the wounded man whilst the other stretcher bearer went to gain location of the dressing station , on their return they found that Private Goodwin had been hit by a shell below the heart and was unconscious . His friend Private Charles Wheelhouse assisted with stretching him to the dressing station and stayed with him and Chaplin T H Justice until he had died.
14-10-1917. Chaplin T H Justice buried Private Goodwin at Dunhallow Advance Dressing Station Military Cemetery, Ypres Plot 7. Row A. Grave 27. S- West, Zonnebeke
Burial - 28-1-1926 - His body was found and re-interred in Plot 11- Row L- Grave 16. Divisional Collecting Post Cemetery and Extension Sint Jan, Ypres Belgium. [4]
