George was a mariner, and based on his title of captain, he probably was a ship captain.
He died in 1779 in Marblehead Essex, Massachusetts, USA, and his estate was probated in the Essex County Court of Probate, #11289, filed 6 September 1779. His widow Elizabeth was his adminstratrix. She signed the probate bond, along with Richard Reed, Esquire; and Benjamin Reed, mariner, whom she later married.[3]
Benjamin Reed's 1782 probate/will bequeathed his estate to Elizabeth and her children from former marriage, named Nicholas Gordon, George Gordon, and Elizabeth Gordon
