Biography

Margaret Gordon was baptized on 26 Jan 1826 in Annan, Dumfriesshire, Scotland[1]. Her date of birth was probably in late 1825. Her parents were Robert Gordon and Margaret Farish.

She married Robert Cochrane on 8 Feb 1850 in Annan, Dumfriesshire, Scotland[2][3].

The 1851 Scotland Census[4] shows the family living in Annan, Dumfriesshire, and their first child, John is one year old.

In the mid-1850s, after the birth of her son Robert (1853) and before the birth of her daughter Agnes (1857), the family moved to Leamside, Co. Durham, England. The family move seems to coincide with the redevelopment of Leamside Railway Station, which was completed in April 1857.

The England Census in 1861[5], 1871[6] and 1881[7] show the family living in West Rainton. The William Cochrane mentioned in the 1861 England Census, aged 24, appears to be Margaret Cochrane's uncle and her father Robert Cochrane's brother William Cochrane .

She passed away on 30 Dec 1889 at Moor House, Leamside[8].
