Biography

Louis was born December 25, 1897[1] (see Notes) in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States. His parents were Simon Gordon and Celia (Unknown) Gordon, who were both Russian immigrants.[2]

Louis lived with his parents, two half-siblings, and two siblings in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States in 1900.[2] In 1905 his half-siblings were no longer living at home[3] and by 1910 one more sibling had been born to his parents.[4] The family moved to Brooklyn between 1910[4] and 1915[5]

Louis registered for the World War I draft September 12, 1918 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States. At the time, he lived at 627 Hendrix Street in Brooklyn and his mother, Celia Gordon, at the same address, was his nearest relative. At the time, Louis was a racker at the Ordnance Depot USA on Governors Island.[1]

Louis may have married Anna Unknown about 1924 and lived with her in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States in 1930.[6]

Louis was said to be manager of the Chicago Opera House in the 1940's and 1950's, however there are no records to support this information.[7]

Louis was living at 3180 N Lakeshore Dr in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States and working as a concessionaire at the time of his death on January 27, 1964 in Chicago. Although he was married at the time, the information for his death certificate was given by his brother, Maurice Gordon. His funeral was arranged by the Weinstein Brothers Funeral Home, following which he was buried in the West Lawn Cemetery.[8]

Notes

Birth
Louis' birth date is recorded as December 25, 1897 on his World War I draft registration, which also includes correct information for his mother's name and address.[1] and the same date appears in his Social Security record,[9] therefore the April 1896 birth date shown in the 1900 Census[2] is believed incorrect.
