I have amended this biography with many contemporary references which show that his designation is correctly "of Shivas. (Scheves is spelling in the contemporary records.) His name however was William Gordon both at birth and as last name. His designation being "of Shivas." Too many socalled genealogists have given his mother as Elizabeth Hay but his mother is not known and they also name him as William Gordon of Gight which is not correct - it was his youngest son John who adopted the title of Gight. Wikitree entries should check proper sources and not copy earlier erroneous biographies unless there is no contemporary information.

I don't believe that William Gordon can be the father of Alexander Gordon being that William died in 1513 before Alexander was born abt. 1549.

I have documentation which identifies Alexander's father as George Gordon, b. 1509, and his mother as Elizabeth Gordon, b. abt. 1512. And then back to 1359.
