Charles Goring, 2nd Earl of Norwich (c. 1615-3 Mar 1670/1) was the son of George Goring, 1st Earl of Norwich and Mary Neville. He m. Alice Leman, da. of Robert Leman and widow of Thomas Baker, esq. of Leyton, Essex bef. 7 January 1658/59. He d. 3 March 1670/1 without issue and on his death his titles became extinct.
Finishing his education in Paris , he was recalled to England by his father to enlist in the Royalist army. [1]
Charles married pre 1659 Alice Leman, daughter of Robert Leman and widow of Sir Richard Baker. [2]
He was soldier who fought for the Royalist Army in the English civil war, gaining the rank of Colonel in the service of the Royalist Army. He fought in the Battle of Marston Moor in July 1644, where he was captured and then escaped, the 2nd Battle of Newbury in October 1644. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Earl of Norwich [E., 1644] on 6 January 1662/63. on the death of his father.
1671 Charles died dsp and was buried in Leyton, Essex. His titles became extinct.
Robert Leman (Lyman) of Brightwell Hall, Suffolk, married Mary Cooke of Broome Hall, Norfolk. Their daughter, Alice Leman, by some accounts was married 1stly to Thomas Baker of Fressingfield, and 2ndly to Charles Goring, 2nd Earl of Norwich.
