Biography

Mary (Gorman) McPhee was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

Mary was born in 1848 at Campbells River. Mary, was 22yrs old when her mother died, her youngest of 11 siblings, Joseph Michael, was 8 months old.

Mary married Norman McPhee in Menindie district (NSW) in 1876/3278. They had eight children:

Two Norman McPhees are listed in 1900 at Ford's Bridge, Bourke in Yewens Directory Landholders New South Wales , presumably Mary's husband and son. Mary and Norman ran the Salmon Ford Hotel at Ford's Bridge for 20 or 29 years. [1] According to her DC this Mary was born 1843, DC1910/714, only three children survived her.

In 1892 her sister Ellen died in the Tarana railway accident. This article confirms Mary (Gorman) McPhee as the daughter of James and Ellen.

Mary's son Norman represented his union at the funeral of HENRY LAWSON Death of Australia's National Singer and Tale-Teller, 1922
