Biography

Eliza Carrig and, to a lesser extent, her daughter Catherine Carrig both appear to have grossly underestimated their ages in the 1901 census.[1] The mother's age is difficult to read in the original census return[2] and is a more plausible 78 in another transcription.[3] Eliza's age was estimated by her son Patrick Carrig of Tierglahane as 87 when he registered her death, which took place on 10 Sep 1908, so that one reading of the 1901 census implies that she had aged by 39 years in less than seven and a half years.[4] Catherine likewise aged by 33 years in the decade to the 1911 census, when she admitted to 68,[5] having been only 13 years younger than her mother in 1901.

It is possible that "son of deceased" on Eliza's death certificate should read "grandson of deceased" as there is no sign of her son Patrick in either census, but she did have a grandson Patrick enumerated in Teernagloghane in both censuses.[6][7]

O gorman-321 and Gorman-290 appear to represent the same person because: a merge of their husbands has just been proposed; this lady's maiden surname is Gorman, without the O' prefix, in the birth record of her son Michael at https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1865/03549/2306592.pdf
