Biography

William Gorman is the son of James MaGorman and Maryanne McLay. [1]In 1871, his parents brought their children, James and William to the United States and settled in Angus, Iowa. The town was originally named Coaltown because it was the largest coal mining town in Iowa. William is found living at home on the United States Census of 1885. [2]

On January 1, 1891, in Jasper, Iowa, William married Anice Willey, daughter of David Willey and Mary Ann (Mitchell) Willey [3] [4]

William and "Annis" are found on the United States Census of 1900, residing in Lee Township, Polk County, Iowa, with children, William Gorman, Jr. age 9, Lucy Gorman, age 7, Harry Gorman, age 6, and May Gorman, age 3. [5] On the 1910 Census, of Saylorville, Polk County, Iowa, William and Annis are shown with children, Lucy, age 17, Harry, age 15, Tommie, age 7, Florence, age 4, and Mary, age 2. [6]

William and "Anna Willey" are found in the birth records of their youngest daughter, Margaret Gorman, born July 9, 1916, in Iowa. [7] By 1920, William and Anice and their three year old daughter, Margaret, are residing in El Paso County, Colorado. [8]

Annice (Willey) Gorman died April 20, 1924, at the age of 48 years, in El Paso County, Colorado and her remains returned to Iowa for burial. She is buried in the Oak Hill Section of the Colfax Cemetery, in Jasper County, Iowa. [9] William Gorman died in 1928, and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, in Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado. [10]

Research Notes

William's father survived him, and died June 26, 1933, at the Stratton Home. Funeral Services were performed by Father Louis Hagus of St Paul Church, of Colorado Springs. He is buried in the same cemetery and William. [11]
