Biography

Charles Gorsuch (Charles, Charles)[1]

Origin

The birth of Charles Gorsuch on 12 October 1725 was recorded in the register of St. Paul's church, Baltimore County, the third son of Charles Gorsuch and the first son of his second wife, an unknown Sarah.[2]

Marriage

Charles may have been married twice, but we only know of the first wife and then only her first name. Charles married by about 1750 to Sarah Unknown.[3]

Property and Positions

On 25 August 1771, Charles patented 270 acres called "Cole's Search Amended" on the Western Run Branch of the Gunpowder.[4]

Charles parents apparently were members of the Society of Friends, but his son, Charles, helped found the Fork Methodist Episcopal Church.[5]

I am pleased to have arrived at this profile from my family research on the migration of the John Gorsuch family to the Midwest through PA, OH, and IA. Thanks to Seeley Foley for managing the site and sorting out the Sarahs.

This profile was set up with an incorrect wife for Charles Gorsuch b. 1729. His father, Charles b. 1687 was married to Sarah Cole & his grandfather Charles b. 1642 was also married to a different Sarah Cole. This Charles was married to Sarah Unknown.

I have removed Sarah Cole as the wife of Charles Gorsuch. Some researcher may have confused this Charles with his father and grandfather who both married women named Sarah Cole. There is no proof available of the last name of this Sarah.

There is no record in Baltimore County Families by Robert Barnes of Charles Gorsuch having a son named Daniel.
