Governor Samuel Gorton Lot.

Lot is located to the right of 422 Samuel Gorton Avenue at the intersection of Armstrong Avenue. There is a sign infront of the lot and it is in good order. The lot is well kept and the grass is mowed. There is a metal chain surrounding the lot. Most of the stones in the lot appear to be fieldstones and are arranged in neat orderly rows. There are, however, 12 readable stones and 7 footstones. The stone of the Governor has no markings on it. There is the standard Rhode Island Governors plaque in front of it. This lot was visited on August 19, 2008.

Samuel Gorton was born 12 February 1593 in Gorton, Lancashire, England to Thomas Gorton (1566-1610) and Anne Johnston (1566-1623) and died 10 December 1677 in Warwick, Kent County, Rhode Island, United States of unspecified causes. He married Mary Maplet (1609-1677) 20 May 1628 in London, England.
