Biography

Birth

Peter Goss was born in 1737 at Bradford, MA, the son of John Goss and Mehitable Bailey.[1] He was married on 9 Dec. 1762 at Andover, MA to Mary Abbot.[2] They settled in Amherst, NH soon after the incorporation of the town.[3]

Marriage

Mary Abbott, of Andover, Massachusetts, married Peter Goss in Bolton, Massachusetts, on 09 December 1762[4]

Family

Their five children born to Mary & Peter Goss in Amherst, NH:

  1. John Abbot, b. 5 June 1764; d. Dec. 1819
  2. Ephraim Goss, b. 6 Apr. 1767[5]Ephraim m. Anah Bathrick, 13 Jul. 1786; d. 18 Nov. 1840
  3. Mary, b. 21 Oct. 1769; m. Simeon Buck, 2 Dec. 1788
  4. Daniel, b. 20 Feb. 1771; d. 18 Sep. 1771, and
  5. Sarah, b. 25 Dec. 1772; m. William Ray, 3 Dec. 1797.

Peter and both of his surviving sons took part from Amherst, NH in the Revolutionary War.[6] Peter was present at the Battle of Bunker Hill.[7]

Military

Corporal Peter Goss, born 17 June 1737 in Amherst, New Hampshire, died there after 1790, and his wife Mary Abbott are honored by the Daughters of the American Revolution for service: 1) CAPT CROSBY,COL REED,CL. Their son Ephraim Abbott, born 06 April 1767, married Anna Bathrick, born 01 February 1770.[8]
