In 1903 Martha Alice Gould gave birth to a child named Mary Ellen Gould. At the time Martha was not married, so the child's birth was registered with her having her mother's last name. It appears the child's father was James Lyng. Martha went on to marry Frederick Platt in 1906 and have several children. Frederick went on to marry Emma Johnson in 1907. In the 1911 census, daughter Mary was living in an orphanage, Dr. Barnardo's Girls Village Home, in Barkingside, Ilford, Essex. [1]
