Biography

Ruth Euphemia Gould was born on 27 September 1894 in Long Pine, Brown, Nebraska. She was the daughter of James Bird Gould and Carrie E. Kendall. [1] Long Pine, Nebraska was her grandfather, Alfred C. Kendall's ranch.

Ruth was married twice. [2]

Ruth was first married to George Washington Hulshizer in 1912. After their wedding, they moved to Missoula, Missoula, Montana.[2]

Ruth and George had the following children:

  1. Gertrude Hulshizer m _____Anderson [2]
  2. Velma Hulshizer m _____Bass [2]
  3. Dorothy Hulshizer m ____ Flanagan[2]

In 1930, Ruth (Gould) Hulshizer and her family were living in Missoula, Missoula, Montana. Her mother, Carrie Gould and her brother, Noel were living with them.[3]

Her husband, George died at their home at 816 Cooley In Missoula at the age of 33 on 3 October 1945.[4]

She married second Arthur B. Johnston on 8 April 1955 in Missoula, Missoula, Montana. Arthur was the son of Thomas Jefferson Johnston and Fannie ( ) Johnston.[5]

Ruth Euphemia Johnston, a widow, died on 25 November 1973 in Missoula, Missoula, Montana and she is buried in the Missoula Cemetery, Missoula, Missoula, Montana.[1]

Ruth E. Johnston, 79, of 2823 Fort Missoula Road, died in Missoula Sunday.

Mrs. Johnston was born Sept. 27, 1894, in Brown County, Neb. She attended schools in Nebraska and came to Missoula in 1912 after marrying George Hulshizer. He died in 1945. She married Art Johnston in Missoula during 1955. He died during 1963.

She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Anderson of Missoula, Mrs. Velma Bass of Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Dorothy Flanagan of Newman, Calif.; two brothers, Floyd Gould of Sioux City, Iowa, and Noel Gould of Missoula; one sister Mrs. Lydia Hooper of Spokane, Wash.; four grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Livingston & Malletta Chapel with the Rev. Donald Kindig officiating. Burial will be in the Missoula Cemetery.[2]
