Biography

Joseph Gowen b. 1737/38

His age is determined looking at Granville Co, NC tithe records. He is on his father William Gowen's tithes from 1754 to 1757 - for 4 years.

In 1758 William Gowing only has his son William Gowing Jr on his tithe, meaning Joseph Gowen is no longer a minor on his father's tithe - he has turned 21 years of age by the 1758 tax list. This places his year of birth as 1737.
