(1877–1930) 4 Mar 1904, Monroe, Monroe County, Iowa. He passed away 17 Mar 1932, in Avery, Monroe County, Iowa. [1][2][3][4][5][6]
John Benjamin Gragg, son of Thomas and Mariza, was born in Albia, March 28, 1868, and departed this life after a brief illness of one week at the home of his sister, Mrs. C. A. Kellogg, on March 17, 1932, at the age of 63 years, 11 months and 18 days.
Mr. Gragg spent the most of his life in Monroe and Mahaska counties. In 1903 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Grace Atkins of Lockman. To this union were born seven children, five of whom, with three step-children, are left to mourn the loss of a father. Two sons, Everett and Emmett, passed away several years ago. The wife and mother preceded him in death on July 16, 1930.
Those left to mourn his passing are three daughters: Mrs. Lizie Playle of Sentinel Butte, N.D., Mrs. Clara Harker of Louisiana, Mo., and Veda of Albia; two sons, Thomas Gragg of Ewing, Mo., and Ray of Albia; his two step-daughters, Mrs. John Smith of Avery and Mrs. Enoch Smith of Gregory Landing, Mo.; one step-son, Joe Atkins of Melcher; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Harnden and Mrs. C. A. Kellogg, with whom he made his home; one brother, Joseph Gragg of Albia; two half-sisters, Mrs. Mary Denis of Albia and Mrs. Della Oaks of Hiteman; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Gragg confessed Christ as his savior and united with the Pentecostal Church at Coalfield several years ago and has lived his life according to Christ's teachings since.
All during his earthly life Mr. Gragg was almost totally blind, but he has laid down the cares of this life now and gone home to the Savior who can giveth sight to the blind. Mr. Gragg was a loving husband and father and greatly enjoyed the companionship of his children. He was a good citizen and won the respect of all who know him.
Gone, dear daddy, gone forever.
How we miss your smiling face,
But you left us to remember
None on earth can take your place.
Yet again we hope to meet thee
When the days of life have fled,
Then in heaven with joy to greet thee
Where no farewell tears are shed.
Funeral services were conducted from the Downs Funeral Home Sunday afternoon, Joseph Lee officiating. Interment at Lockman Cemetery.
