Biography

John was robbed and murdered for the $250 he was carrying. He was also a veteran of the Texas Revolutionary War.

John H. Graham was born about 1797 in North Carolina and died in Robertson County, TX 19 Jan, 1852. His wife, Margaret, was born about 1801 in Virgina. Both are buried in the Bald Prairie Cemetery in Robertson County, TX. Margaret was last found on the 1870 census of Robertson County living with her son, Charles Graham. Her age is given as 63 and his as 21.

John and Margaret Graham migrated to Texas in 1835 from Tennessee. He entered Texas with his wife and 12 others. According to stories handed down through the family at Mr. Cazey asked the Grahams to care for his son until he returned. When the father did not return the Grahams brought John Cazey to Texas with them.

John and Margaret Graham had eight children, seven girls and one son. The first five children were born in Tennessee and the last three in Texas. The children were Eliza Jan, Elizabeth Emiline, Sarah, Mary, C atherine, Martha Ann, Margaret J., and Charles A.

Elize Jane married Rev. Thomas H Eaton; Elizabeth married William Langford; Sarah married M.C. Henderson; Mary married Robert H. Fulbright; Catherine married Scott Cobb; martha married James M. Brown; Margaret married Robert Cole; and Charles married Corscia S. Boatner.

On Jan 19, 1852, John H. Graham was robbed and murdered near Wheelock, TX when returning from a business meeting with around $250.00 in gold. He died intestate and many probate records were located in the Robertson County Court House.

John fought as a Ranger and Minuteman in the Republic of Texas. He was discharged May 9, 1836 at Harrisburg because he was not able to do camp duty. In 1837 he served in Captain Haggard's Frontier Rangers.

On Jan 16, 1990 in the Bald Prairie Cemetery descendants of John H. and Margaret Graham honored them by dedicating Citizen and Veteran DRT grave markers. recorded: Patsy Todd Silva (GGGD); 14709 Charline Hereford Frank (GGGD); 14031
