Biography

The Graham family came from Scotland around the year 1770 and settled first in North Carolina. It was said that at one time, all but 90 families of the Grahams were removed from Scotland and sent to Ireland because they were troublesome. Family tradition is that James Graham came a famous ship building family of Scotland. Other family members argue that they were 100% Irish.

Family tradition is that Jesse had four brothers who were in the Revolutionary War. One of the brothers, John Graham, was 6 feet and 5 inches tall. He was a flag bearer. When General Warren was wounded and fell on the field at Bunker Hull, John Graham carried him off the field in his arms.

Jesse Graham came from North Carolina, over the Blue Ridge Mountains, with Daniel Boone. When they reached the valley they found a field of about 40 acres of wild crab apples, all in bloom. Here they stopped and began the settlement which became the town of Crab Orchard, Kentucky.

All of Jesse's sons served in the War of 1812. Altogether, Jesse had 8 sons. All of the brothers stayed with the army until the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. Jesse's son, Isaac Graham, traveled to Marthysville, Missouri, where he spent time with the famous trapper, explorer, and politician, Daniel Boone. Daniel Boone died in September 1820, with Isaac Graham and others at his bedside. About 1827, Isaac Graham became a full-time trapper, spending 3 years with a very young Kit Carson, until 1929, when Ewing Young hired Carson for his famous expedition to California. [1]
