I am the only living child of Lucy Lelia White and David Thomas Sanders. They had two babies to die at birth before my birth. I was one of the first cesarean births in Wilson County, TN. All of the nurses came in to watch. And, I survived the delivery. I graduated from Lebanon High School in 1970 and David Lipscomb University in 1974. I married Croley Wayne Graham, Jr, who I met at Lipcomb and we left for his to go to Law School at Duke University immediately after the wedding. I worked on campus for a dean and also was a dorm mother on campus. So, we became hard core Duke Basketball fans. I next went back to school to earn my elementary education certificate and taught school for awhile before I had three children. I was lucky enough to be able to stay at home and became a professional volunteer at all the schools they attended: David Lipscomb for awhile and then Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, TN. I was involved in a lot of organizations helping wherever I could. I now am a member of the DAR where I have served on several committees and as Historian for 6 yrs. I am currently the 2nd Vice President of my 1812 chapter and the President of my Colonial Dames XVIIc chapter. So, I am involved with genealogy and am trying to clean up my lines and write a book for our children to see where they came from. I hope there is enough years left in my life to do this! Sincerely, Joy Davene Sanders Graham
