Rev John Graham was born to Andrew and Jane Masters Graham in Armagh, Ireland.

He entered an academy in Ireland at the age of 11, he studied logic and philosophy. At age 13 he entered the University of Glasgow and graduated in 1711 at age 17.

He received his education in Glasgow and also studied medicine. But his call to the ministry would be his destiny. Coming to this country in August 11,1718, landing in Boston. He then resided in Exeter, New Hampshire. He was the first clergyman of Stafford, Connecticut but found little success and was dismissed in 1731. After moving to the second church of Southbury (then Woodbury) he would spend the next 40 years of his life. He was very active in the Great New England Revival of 1740 and was the author of " A Ballad Against the Church of England in Connecticut".

John married Love Sanborn on the January 8, 1719 in Rockingham, Connecticut, and they had three children:

  1. Elizabeth 1720-1775
  2. Rev John Jr, 1722-1786
  3. Dr Robert 1724-1793

Love Sanborn, died March 1, 1725 in Stafford Springs, Connecticut.

John married Abigail Chauncey in September 1726 and they raised additional children:

  1. Rev Chauncey 1727-1784
  2. Dr Andrew 1728-1785
  3. Love 1732-1820
  4. Sara 1735-aft 1778, m. Gideon Hurd.
  5. Abigail 1737-1738
  6. Rev Richard Crouch1739-1772
  7. Abigail 1741-1795

His tombstone inscription reads:

In Trust at Best
Here lies the Rev
Mr John Graham
who departed
this life December
the 11 AD 1774 in the
81 year of his age
& 54 year of his
Ministry
