Sgt James Graham who arrived on the Norwood 9/6/1862 and he is listed as a pensioner guard age 32 with the 7th Regiment. But no record of his family. Ref. Convicts to Australia website.
He enlisted with the 7th Royal Regiment of Fusiliers on 30/12/1846 at Newry County Armagh Northern Ireland aged 17 and 9 months. S/N 2191. At the time his occupation was weaver and his mother Agnes was listed as next of kin. In the 1851 census he was living at Clarence & Forehouse Barracks, Portsea Island, Portsmouth, England. 1/4/1854 he was promoted to Corporal. 22/4/1854 he landed in Turkey. 14/9/1854 he landed on Crimea. 12/6/1855 he was promoted to Sergeant. 8/9/1855 wounded in both cheeks in storming the Redan. 5/2/1856 discharged from Chelsea Hospital on a pension 1/6d per diem. 24/3/1859 was a porter at Newry Union Work House and still there in 7/4/1861. 15/12/1866 appointed Assistant Warder Perth. 1/9/1889 retired as warder on medical grounds. 9/9/1893 received pension of 7 pounds 10 shillings. He held the Crimean War medal with clasps for Alma, Inkerman & Sebastopol. The medal was passed on to Graham Jose great grandson of James and grandson of Percy D Jose. While a warder he was in charge of a road gang making a road to Albany and was also in the Williams District. Ref. The Veterans by F H Broomhall. Hesperian Press 1986. page B116
His funeral left his son in law David Jose's house in South St Fremantle on 18/8/1894. Ref. The West Australian 18/8/1894.

James Graham was born in March 1829 in Drumgath, Down, Ireland. His parents were Andrew Graham and Agnes McCreery. He was baptized on 14 March 1830 [1] in 2nd Rathfriland Presbyterian Church, County Down, Ireland.
On 30 December 1846 James enrolled in the 7th Royal Reg of Fusiliers. He fought in the Crimean War at Sebastopol, Alma and Inkerman were he was wounded in the face at the assault of Redan [2].
James married Fanny Jean Brown on 4 January 1854 in Drumgath, Down, Ireland.
In 1857 they left for Plymouth, Devon, England, United Kingdom.
On 16 March 1862 they boarded "The Norwood" at Portland, Somerset, England, United Kingdom. They arrived in Western Australia on 9 June 1862 [3].
He served as a police constable at Guildford, Western Australia in 1865. He worked on in the prison system of Western Australia until he retired in 1889 [4].
James was widowed in 1883 in Perth, Western Australia. In 1883/4 James Graham married his second wife, Eliza, nee Manning, widow of Thomas Cole. In that same year he received a land grant of one acre in North Fremantle.
He died on 16 August 1894 [5] in Jarrahdale, Western Australia, at the age of 65. He was buried in Fremantle Cemetery.
